In Brazilian Portuguese, it is not different, so it is capital to understand their use. Besides knowing when and where to use them, in Brazilian Portuguese we often see combinations between prepositions and articles. And that’s what we will discuss today: the combinations between Articles and Prepositions in Brazilian Portuguese! Let’s go?!
1. ARTICLES
1.1 DEFINITE ARTICLES:
General translation: THE
A – feminine, singular | AS – feminine, plural
O – masculine, singular | OS – masculine, plural
1.2 INDEFINITE ARTICLES:
General translation: A, AN, SOME
UMA – feminine, singular | UMAS – feminine, plural
UM – masculine, singular | UNS – masculine, plural
2. PREPOSITIONS
2.1 PREPOSITION EM
General translation: IN
Combinations between articles & prepositions:
EM + A = NA | EM + AS = NAS
EM + O = NO | EM + OS = NOS
2.2 PREPOSITION DE
General translation: OF
Combinations between articles & prepositions:
DE + A = DA | DE + AS = DAS
DE + O = DO | DE + OS = DOS
2.3 PREPOSITION POR
General translation: BY, PER etc
Combinations between articles & prepositions:
POR + A = PELA | POR + AS = PELAS
POR + O = PELO | POR + OS = PELOS
2.4 PREPOSITION A
General translation: TO
Combinations between articles & prepositions:
A + A = À | A + AS = ÀS
A + O = AO | A + OS = AOS
